How to find the length of a YouTube playlist
From the playlist page, or from any video you are watching inside it — the URL contains list= either way.
The first 200 videos are read immediately. Longer playlists load 200 more each time you ask.
If it is not zero, the playlist has dead videos. The runtime is what still plays, not what the item count implies.
The speed table shows what 1.5x or 2x saves you, and the pace box turns the total into days at however long you actually sit down for.
Why two calculators disagree
A playlist's item count is not its video count
And on an old playlist the gap is often ten per cent.
When a video in a playlist is deleted or set to private, it does not leave the playlist. It stays as an item titled "Deleted video" or "Private video", with no duration behind it and nothing to watch.
So a playlist showing 52 videos may have 48 that play. A calculator that sums durations gets a total that is correct for what remains, while the item count beside it describes something else — and the two never quite agree.
This tool reports both, separately, and says how many items are gone. For a course playlist that is not a technical footnote: four missing lessons out of fifty-two is the difference between a resource that works and one that has quietly rotted.
The other reason totals differ is scope. This reads up to 200 videos at a time and tells you how many of the playlist's items it measured, so a partial answer is never presented as a complete one.
Limits
What this calculator cannot do
Those are private to your Google account. The public API returns nothing for them, for anyone — the tool names the playlist and says so rather than showing an empty result.
Once a video is gone its duration is gone with it. The item is counted as unavailable, never estimated.
If the playlist itself is unlisted it works with the direct link; if it is private, nothing outside the owner's account can see it.
Each 50 videos is two API calls. 200 at a time keeps one person's curiosity from spending the day's quota — press for more as needed.
The runtime is the videos. Mid-rolls and pre-rolls add real minutes that no public data exposes.
Watch progress lives in your account. The total is the whole playlist, not what is left of it for you.

How do I find out how long a YouTube playlist is?+

Why is the total lower than I expected?+
Almost always deleted or privated videos. Can it read my Watch Later playlist?+
No, and neither can anything else. Watch Later and Liked Videos are private to your own Google account — the public API returns nothing for them at all. The tool says so directly instead of showing an empty result.
How long does a playlist take at 2x speed?+
Exactly half, and the table above shows every rate YouTube's player actually offers — 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x. Those five are deliberate: a figure for 1.3x would be a number you cannot act on.
Is there a limit on how many videos it reads?+
It reads 200 videos to start and 200 more each time you ask. Each 50 videos costs two API calls, so a 5,000-video playlist would be 200 calls to measure once — the limit is what keeps the tool free and available to everyone else that day.
Can I calculate a whole channel's total upload time?+
Yes — every channel has an 'uploads' playlist. Take the channel ID, change the UC at the front to UU, and paste that. The Channel ID Finder gets you the ID.
Why is my YouTube playlist playing backwards?+
Because a channel's uploads playlist is ordered newest first, and so is any playlist set to sort by date added descending. It is not a fault. The owner can change the sort on their own playlist; on someone else's you cannot, which is one reason the random pick above exists.
How do I shuffle a YouTube playlist properly?+
YouTube's own shuffle includes deleted and private entries, so it can land you on an unplayable item. The picker above draws only from videos that still play, and it is seeded — the same draw number always gives the same video, so you can come back to it.
What do the symbols next to playlist videos mean?+
A padlock or 'Private video' means the owner restricted it; 'Deleted video' means it is gone. Both keep their slot in the playlist and have no duration, which is exactly why the item count and the runtime disagree.
